City areas
The town can be explored in an open-air train starting from St.Nicholas Square. It takes a circuitous tour of the whole city and highlights its main attractions. The town is anything but boring and there are lots of activities for all ages.
Place St. Nicholas is one of the largest and most famous public open areas in town and the hub of all recreational activities. It is almost as long as three football pitches and offers a vast square in which local people and visitors like to gather and meet.
Most of the town’s historical monuments can be found in Terra Vecchia, the old quarter, and Terra Nova, around the citadel. There are beautiful town houses on display as well as Victorian tenements which tower above.
The Old Port area of Bastia is one of the central historical places of importance. A stroll around the old port will treat visitors to some stunning views of the town, as well as introducing them to some of the friendly and vibrant traders and shops that line the area.
